i saw the production of Snow Queen at the Victory Garden Theater Saturday night. It hit just the right holiday note for me - not all santa clausy or overly sentimental and sweetish. The Snow Queen pictured is actually a costumed person - about 10 feet tall, I don't know how - someone on a type of stilts or maybe not, as she rather glided about. The production was enchanting, beautiful, fairy tale like and magical - full of talking animals, shadow puppetry as background, odd folk, floating bees and butterfly silhouette puppetry, a small band on stage with the Old Town School of Music musicians entering the story in and out as characters, singing and dancing! The girl -Gerda- embarks on a journey to save her captured friend from the frozen territory of the Snow Queen. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story. A slightly dark and mysterious story about friendship and love - heh I quite loved it -
